You’re Hired “Orientation - How To”

  • Kids apply for a job (chore),
complete the job and get paid out on pay day.

  • What are the Non-Payable Basic
    Contribution?

    • These are chores that MUST be
done to assist the household WITHOUT Reward. Our
family chooses 4 items: make your bed, dirty laundry in hamper,
clean laundry away, clear dishes from table.

  • Why do we need a probationary
    period?

It is important once you launch Hire and Fire your Kids that
you have a training/testing phase as the Kids aren’t used to asking
or signing up for chores. As well some Kids will need your guidance
to show them how to do these chores at first. You will need to
engage with a prompt/ask “who wants to set the table, who wants to
cut the grass today etc.” The goal is after the training period,
and after the Kids have seen the rewards and recognition, they’ll
feel a sense of accomplishment for the jobs they have completed.
Your mini selves will then WANT to apply for jobs on their own
without having to be asked or reminded to apply. This doesn’t
happen overnight so having a probationary period is a perfect
solution to teach/test and get out any kinks etc.

  • Customize the list of jobs and
decide which jobs you want to delete or add.

  • Then look at the Kids Kash payout
beside each job and see if you want to customize to suit your
    household.

  • You can also choose to have your
Kids accumulate their Kids Kash towards experiences (extra media
time, sleepover, date with Mom, treat at the grocery store etc.).

  • Each Kid will have their own
``You`re Hired`` Monthly template that will be put up
on the fridge or somewhere prominent.

  • The Kid can apply for a job
(chore) and once completed the parent will initial that job on the
    Kids template.

  • To apply for jobs Kids must ask
the parent to do the job and the parent must hire them. You may not
want to hire them if another sibling was just hired or you or your
spouse has just completed that job.

  • To be eligible for the employee of
the month a Kid must apply and complete a minimum of 5 jobs. Click
on Employee of the Month for more details.

  • At the end of the month you add up
all the Kids Kash and payout at your monthly team meeting.

You’re Fired “Orientation – How To”

  • At the start of the pay period
(beginning of the month) $20.00 is held for each Kid.

  • If they progress through the month
and DON’T get FIRED, they keep their $20.00.

  • If ALL
SIBLINGS DON’T get FIRED in the month, there is a $5.00 BONUS per
Kid as well as a Family Experience which encourages teamwork and
    cooperation!

  • CONSEQUENCE: If the Kid gets
FIRED in the month, the consequence set out for that month is
initiated. Example: No media the rest of the day, no treats, no
    friends, no bedtime book…

  • Why do we need a probationary
    period?

    • It is important once you launch
Hire and Fire your Kids you have a teaching/testing phase to
get parents and kids accustomed to the HFK system. This allows for
learning, adjustments and outcomes that are recognized and rewarded
      which is most important.
    • It’s a much needed investment
in time that will set you ALL up for success!
    • See Probationary Period for more
      information to launch

  • What is the Non – Payable Basic
    Contribution?

    • These are chores that MUST be
done to assist the household WITHOUT Reward. Our
family chooses 4 items: make your bed, dirty laundry in hamper,
clean laundry away, clear dishes from table.

  • Start by using the “You’re
    Fired” template
and add or delete Expectations to
customize for your Family. Customize your Kids Kash payout.
Remember to decide what your non-payable chores will be.

  • Each Kid will have their own
“You’re Fired” Annual template that will be put
up on the fridge or somewhere prominent.

  • Every time a Kid doesn’t follow
the Family Expectations set they will receive a warning. You will
put an X on that expectation line.

  • After 3 X’s (3 warnings) if they
don’t follow any expectation again they’re FIRED! Total times
spoken to is 4 (1st warning, 2nd warning,
final warning, FIRED). Your Kid is fired after ANY 4 expectations
not met, not 1 expectation 4 times although it could happen….

  • Once a Kid is fired they
automatically lose the $20.00 NOT FIRED Bonus. They are not
eligible for the employee of the month and the additional Teamwork
Bonus for the siblings is lost.

  • You would write FIRED across the
month for that Kid and the consequence set activates.

  • The fired Kid still needs to
participate in the non-payable chores as these are their basic
contributions to the home. If Kid gets Fired again they continue to
    receive consequences.

  • Need to ensure YOU are leading by
example and are verbally RECOGNIZING Expectations that
the Kids are following to reinforce that expectation.

worked together and didn’t get Fired. Shared that they could KEEP
this money and it would have to get them through the month as we

    needed to manage.

and getting input from your Kids on what the consequence/discipline
will be if they get fired this upcoming month. They can be unique
to each Kid too. Then set them!

Probationary Period “Orientation – How To”

  • It is important once you launch
Hire and Fire your Kids that you have a testing/training
phase therefore we HIGHLY recommend a “probationary period”.

  • Hire and Fire your Kids
(HFK) encourages and expects Kids to ask for, and sign up for chores
    to earn Kids Kash.

  • During the probationary period,
the HFK way sets standards and goals that parents and children
become accustomed to. The systematic approach allows for learning,
adjustments, and outcomes that are recognized and rewarded which is
    most important.

  • During the
probationary period under “You’re Hired” you will need to
engage with a prompt/ask “who wants to set the table, who wants to
cut the grass today etc.” As well some Kids will need your
guidance to show them how to do these jobs at first. The goal is
after the time set and after the Kids have seen the rewards and
recognition, they’ll feel a sense of accomplishment for the jobs
they have completed. Your mini selves will then WANT to apply for
jobs on their own without having to be asked or reminded to apply.
This doesn’t happen overnight so having a probationary period
assists to teach/test and get out any
    kinks etc.

  • During the probationary period
under “You’re Fired” we recommend 2 phases. You can
absolutely customize to suit what works for your Family! Reward up
for grabs is the $20.00 NOT FIRED Bonus.

    • Test Phase 1 – Month 1
      • You call out any expectations
not met and have your Kid correct IMMEDIATLY. “Whose coat is on
the floor, you’re going to get an X?” “I hear you yelling
at your sister…. do you want to get an X?” If your Kid
quickly corrects, NO X is given on the “You’re Fired”
        template.
      • If the youngster doesn’t
immediately correct, an X IS given on the “You’re Fired”
        template.
      • Chances are ALL of your Kids
will earn the $20.00 NOT FIRED BONUS at your 1st Family
Meeting. This will give them a taste of Kids Kash, how easy it is
to work together as a team and they’ll feel more responsible as
an active participant contributing to the home.
    • Test Phase 2 – Month 2
      • If you see any expectations NOT
met, you inform them they are getting an X for not following
expectations and an X is given on the “You’re Fired”
        template.
      • Kid still needs to correct or
        another X will be given
      • Kid fired the least gets the
$20.00 NOT FIRED Bonus (if all not fired = payout all)
    • Test Phase 3 – Customize
      • Customize based on your first
two months. Either continue the probationary period OR Roll Out
        and GO LIVE!

  • TIP – for any of
your Kids that use devices best practice we used was to take a
picture of the “X” and send to the kid. We didn’t even have
to say anything they would open their device, see the picture of
their infraction and correct immediately. It was awesome!!!! –
This is where the App is going!

  • After the probationary/test period
is over you go LIVE. In the LIVE phase there is no Kids Kash given
for being fired the least. There is ONLY Kids Kash given if you
DON’T get fired. If you DO get fired, you lose your $20.00 NOT
FIRED Bonus, Kids still get paid for jobs completed on pay day and
Kids still receives consequences if fired again.

  • Use your judgement and extend the
testing phase if you feel your kids aren’t ready, or reduce the
expectations and start slowly, or shorten the probationary period if
your Kids are nailing it month 1! Goal is to lead them to success,
developing them to be more responsible, independent and a
    contributing member to the household!

  • Customize and make it your own to
suit your families success with Hire and Fire your Kids!

distinguished using a combination of things from “You`re Hired”,
“You`re Fired” and your Family Values.

    • Eligibility: Throughout
the month, the Kid must have applied AND completed minimum 5 jobs.
    • Examples:

least amount of X`s, or the only Kid who wasn’t fired

    • The employee of the month is
decided by the parents and announced at the monthly family meeting.

  • The Employee of the month gets
rewarded by deciding what they want for the entire upcoming month.
The parents must approve the winner`s request. (Our Kids always
fight over where to sit in the car so they always chose the seat
they wanted for the entire month).

  • Take a
picture of the employee of the month and post on the fridge or
somewhere prominent with ``Employee of the Month for _______ at the
top, then the picture and their Name on the bottom`` (download our

  • Make a big deal about it, share
    with friends etc.

  • Share with us too at
hireandfireyourkids.com. Each month we draw one winner of
